Football sets the benchmark that rugby markets are compared with, and its vocabulary of match odds carries across into other sports. This section keeps that vocabulary in one place.

Match odds come first, then predictions and tipsters, with futsal and the word “soccer” at the edge. Bookmaker pages standardly carry fractions (11/4, evens), whereas decimals belong to exchanges and many apps.

Two advertising items belong here. Whistle-to-whistle is a voluntary code, not law. Since 1 August 2019 betting ads have been kept off television, before 9pm, around live events: five minutes ahead of the start and the same after the finish. The Premier League clubs agreed on 13 April 2023 to end gambling sponsorship on shirt fronts from 2026/27.
